Doubt

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I saw Doubt recently and made an image for it.  The performances and story were a refreshing break from some of the usual movies people have grown accustomed to.  I’m not sure why this wasn’t nominated for best picture, but it certainly has my vote.  I saw Meryl Streep recently randomly and wanted to tell her how amazing she was, but I didn’t think it was appropriate at the time.  Below are some of the stages of the piece.  Sketches, pencils, and end production.  This piece is mostly pencil with a very little bit of computer tweaking.  The last decision was the addition of the feathers which happens to be my favorite part.  If you are going to the movies and haven’t seen this film, I would consider it.

art180

January calendar art 180.  Last summer I donated 10 dollars and a little of my time creating art for Art 180.  I just found out that my art was selected for the month of January.  You should check out their site, help support this cause, and maybe even buy a calendar.

Year in Review 08

Monday, January 19th, 2009

What can I say.  I haven’t been using my blog the way it was intended.  I promise to be better this year.  Since I haven’t kept everyone up to date, I figured I would give you an 08 year in review.  It was one of my best years on this planet aside from being away from my family and lack of skateboarding.  Besides the obvious Obama election which truly trumps anything I could have accomplished here is a list of a few things that I was excited about throughout 08.  In the future I hope to comment a little more on the past as I started writing things and never posted them.

March 1st place SVA “Uplifting Art Contest”

May SVA Thesis show

May SVA Graduation

June Richmond Illustrator Club Annual Show

July Skateboarders who make art show at Ada Gallery

August Adobe Finalist (one of three in the world)

August Teaching at NYIT

September working with Mucca Design

November Ghost Gallery “Small works show”

Outside of these things I have been working on my own pieces which have gotten me pretty excited recently.  This year has already started with a bang.  I was able to go to the Kenichi Hoshine and Jame Jean opening at the Jonathan Levine gallery.  It’s still up, so if you are around you should check it out.  Also, my studio mate, Seounghyon Cho is currently in a show at the SVA main gallery on 23rd street.  I watched him create the main piece over several weeks.  Pretty inspiring. Also fellow graduate Sophia Wiedeman won a Xeric grant for her thesis project.
